After a sold-out farewell concert last summer, a year of performing music throughout Boston, MA, and multiple standing ovations at MerleFest in Wilkesboro NC, Tucson’s own Roman Barten-Sherman returns to the MSA Annex on August the 19th for FUTURE BLUES!
FUTURE BLUES is a genre-defying celebration of American folk music, history, and storytelling. Roman Barten-Sherman presents an improvisational odyssey through Mississippi Hill Country Blues, Southern Appalachian murder ballads, Arizona banjo breakdowns, and more! Roman will be joined by long-time collaborators Tom Walbank and Ralph White for a night of explosive folk music that dances between the past and the precipice of tomorrow… a dazzling tapestry of fingerstyle acoustic guitar, bottleneck slide, fretless banjo, button accordion, fiddle, harmonica, and kalimba.
Roman has been a fixture of the Tucson music scene for the past 10 years, performing regularly at the Hotel Congress, the Tucson Folk Festival, and the Rialto Theater. Roman has studied and played with blues elders, including Robert Belfour, Jimmy “Duck” Holmes, Kenny Brown, and Corey Harris.
Legendary bluesman Guy Davis stated that “Roman is one of the people who will make sure that blues music stays alive, in the eyes and ears of his generation, and beyond.” Acclaimed music journalist Greil Marcus commented that Roman’s playing “took me right back to John Fahey’s deep-thinking tone.”
