SUMMARY:Roman Barten-Sherman's Farewell Blues Extravaganza
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a soulful evening of the blues with an “off to college” farewell for Roman Barten-Sherman with special guests Trans Van Santos\, Al Perry\, Tom Walbank\, Ralph White and more. \n\n\n\nRoman grew up in Southern AZ living both in Bisbee and Tucson for most of his life. He acquired a deep love for the Blues at a tender young age and has since proliferated his talent far and wide. \n\n\n\nRoman Barten-Sherman has been playing and singing the blues in Tucson since the age of four. His captivating take on acoustic blues draws on the intricate guitar stylings of Blind Blake and Reverend Gary Davis\, the incomparable slide-guitar of Mississippi Fred McDowell and the American Primitivism of John Fahey. Roman has studied with blues elders including Honeyboy Edwards\, Robert Belfour\, Jimmy “Duck” Holmes\, Kenny Brown\, and Corey Harris.  \n\n\n\nHis commitment to the form has convinced bluesman Guy Davis that\, “Roman is one of the people who will make sure that blues music stays alive\, in the eyes and ears of his generation\, and beyond.” Greil Marcus\, America’s most respected music journalist\, commented on his personal blog that Roman “took me right back to John Fahey’s deep-thinking tone.” He is unquestionably the most exciting young guitarist to emerge from Tucson since Connor “Catfish” Gallagher began wowing local audiences as a teenager over a decade ago.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRoman is heading off to Tufts University in Somerville\, Massachusetts at the end of the month; where he will study music\, diligently do his homework\, and continue to pay his dues. Come out and wish Roman Barten-Sherman a warm farewell on Saturday\, August 14th. Tom Walbank\, Al Perry\, and Ralph White will all make guest appearances with Roman; while the veteran journeyman Trans Van Santos\, recently returned to American soil\, will open the concert with a solo set of handmade folk music. \n\n\n\nRoman Barten-Sherman music links  \n\n\n\nBandcamp: https://romanbarten-sherman.bandcamp.com/ \n\n\n\nWebsite: https://www.romanbartensherman.com/ \n\n\n\nYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/user/totalmobilehome \n\n\n\nTrans Van Santos links: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://markmatososbeaches.bandcamp.com/album/moon-mirage \n\n\n\nhttps://youtu.be/-MtJe-Utasc (Video)

SUMMARY:SONRAY
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening of extraordinary live music with Oliver Ray and Mark Matos with a beautifully bespoke and nuanced project–SONRAY! \nSeating is limited for the event so act now OR \nyou can catch it on the MSA ANNEX  YOUTUBE \nSONRAY\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSaturday\, April 24\nDoors at 6:30pm\nMSA Annex-267 Avenida Del Convento 85745\n\nOn Saturday\, April 24th\, The MSA Annex in Tucson will host the world debut of SonRay\, a new musical project that brings together two songwriters familiar to Tucson audiences. Poet and musician Oliver Ray grew up in New York City and spent a decade as guitarist in Patti Smith’s band before relocating to Tucson in 2009\, where he began gracing local stages while fronting his own exploratory band (Saint Maybe). In 2018 Ray released the critically lauded solo album Out Passed Nowhere\, which features a stellar collection of songs highlighted by a duet with his former running mate\, Patti Smith.\n\nThe other half of the SonRay partnership is nomadic songwriter Mark Matos (Sonny Santos)\, who emerged from the Tucson scene in the early 2000’s with his project Campo Bravo and later went on to form the San Francisco-based psych-rockers Os Beaches\, and his Lee Hazlewood inspired solo project Trans Van Santos. After spending the last few years living and performing in Europe\, Matos has returned to the Old Pueblo to explore his musical relationship with Oliver Ray in the aftermath of recent\, world changing events.\n\nDescribing the new project\, Matos says “It’s Esoteric Music\, it can’t really be talked about\, it’s a process of initiation.” Expect a departure from the noisy and unwieldy concerts these two have become synonymous with in the past. Rumors suggest tablas and synths may be involved. All bets are on SonRay casting light into the shadows.\n\nThe concert is limited to 100 tickets and it is suggested that you purchase tickets in advance here. Doors are at 6:30pm. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased individually or as groups.

SUMMARY:Basic Biology Album Release
DESCRIPTION:Flam Chen\, PHAT Entertainment\, and Free Love Digi present:\n“Melting Patterns” Album Release Party\nFeaturing the works of Basic Biology\nPerforming their new record & video collaboration\n(highlights with Flam Chen and Take Flight)\nSkynia\, LUDDS vs CLPRT\, Quentin Hiatus vs Ghast\, SET\nAnd visuals by Noctivision\nSaturday April 6\, 2019 5 p.m.- 10 p.m.\n@ the MSA ANNEX 267 Avenida Del Convento\, Tucson\, AZ 85745\n$12 Day of show // $10\nAdvance Tickets HERE\nBasic Biology releases their 2nd recording-Melting Patterns-with an evening of curated live and electronic music and performance art inside of a stunning visual mapped environment at the MSA ANNEX.\nJust as this new year crested the band planned\, designed and shot a music video with Flam Chen and the photographic direction of local media master Jeff Smith for the title track of the new release and all the collaborators are super excited as the shoot was exhilarating and yielded a uniquely stunning piece. It preview that evening as well!\nOver the months\, post their Night of the Living Fest 2018 Sunday evening 2hr show the idea and design of the shoot started as caffeine fueled conversations at Hermosa Coffee (located at the MSA ANNEX) where Tommy Brinson and members of Flam Chen fed each others loves of both bass driven music\, media mapping\, performance art and filmmaking. This led to a designed and executed shoot in one choice\, Westside\, local cineographic environments that many will recognize… \nAbout the Band:\nBasic Biology is the organic creation of two different dudes with two very different musical upbringings. Thomas Brinson (Thomas B) started producing after 20+ years as a DnB DJ and Matthew Cassidy is a multi-instrumentalist who started playing music at age 10. Matthew and Thomas met through common friend\, and producer\, GHAST.
One late spring\, Matthew was approached by GHAST to sing on ‘Null Explodes’ by the collaboration group Onism Qi (Quentin Hiatus\, Ghast and Thomas B). After working on ‘Null Explodes’\, Thomas and Matthew started sharing music with each other and a natural chemistry was born.
They take an experimental yet palatable approach with little consideration for bpm\, style\, or genre; they simply enjoy creating what comes naturally using organic and synthetic elements. \nLISTEN TO BASIC BIOLOGY

R. nurse. \nOctopus Heart an evening-length performance exploring the human heart through the rituals of the Emergency Room (ER). \nThrough dance\, aerial arts\, live music\, and video\, Octopus Heart bridges the worlds of art and medicine\, revealing connections between apparent opposites: patient and clinician\, health and sickness\, poetry and everyday life. \nThe performance follows a patient who enters the ER with chest pain and is diagnosed with Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy\, in which the heart muscle is damaged after a serious emotional shock\, or “broken heart syndrome.” The syndrome was first diagnosed in Japan and named after the octopus pot (takotsubo)\, whose shape the heart mimics during this malady. \nAbout the Artists\nGolden Boots deconstruct American roots music by borrowing elements from rock\, punk and country to create a new-wave absurdist collage. The project was started in Tucson\, AZ in 2002 by songwriters Ryen Eggleston and Dimitri Manos. An ever shifting line-up of musical contributors over the years has created a diversity in sounds on the the albums and at live shows.
